Uniqueness of Galichnik as a name of a populated place is expressed through the example of the immigrant workers sending telegrams where they only needed to state the destination simply as "Galichnik", without a region, country or continent, and the telegram would be received without any problems. However if we look more into historical details, we can find an information which luckily maybe was unknown to the postal services. Location of the "two Galichniks" It is about the ancient settlement Galichnik (known also as Galeshnik), which is located on the Hvar island, near the small town Jelsa, today's Croatia. Only the remains of the former fortress town which was alse functioning through the middle ages as well, can be found today. That archaeological site is known as Grad and is a subject of archaeological examines. |

In the same way as the last year, we end this one with another work of the poet Todor Chaloski, edited by "Galikul". The book "Poezija" (Poetry) represents a collection of the author's poetry masterpieces. In the preface related to the review, Venko Andonovski will address the collection as a "Chalovski's misterious literary chest". The book can be found in the bookshops "TRI", "Matica Makedonska" and "Kultura".  |

Last Sunday, in the church St. Petar i Pavle in Galichnik, a year from the death of the most influential person in the social life in Galichnik during the major part of the second half of the XX century, Velimir Graorkoski, was marked. For most of his friends and relatives known only as Vele, he was more than a simple immigrant worker, political commissar in the National Liberation Army during the World War 2 and president of agricultural union "Bistra". On the last day of January, Blagoja Drnkov, one of the founders of Macedonian art of photography, left this world. He left calmly, with many years on his shoulders. His photos survived his 98 years of passing the beauties of his homeland from his camera's perspective to the public. Definitely, that is very important heritage for whole Macedonia. The cover of the photo monograph from 1975, dedicated to his 40 years of art activity In search for different topics for photographing and documenting, Drnkov often visited Galichnik and the surroundings. With his photos of the nature, cultural landmarks and the people with their customs, he helped the affirmation of this whole region. One of his masterpieces, the photo of the Galichnik wedding in 1939, can be still viewed in the hotel "Turist" in Galichnik. People from Galichnik sometimes expressed their constant gratitude towards him. One such example was Drnkov's exhibition in 1993, helped by their organizations. Let this text be viewed as such example as well. We hope that it will not be the last. And we will finish it with several photos from this master with topics from Galichnik. |

Many years have passed, maybe over a decade, since Galichnik could be reached by vehicle for New Year's eve. Nowadays this "tradition" is broken thanks to the efforts of the head people of the local community "Galichnik" to clean the road Mavrovo - Galichnik of the snow, no matter the weather conditions. In addition we present you some photos and a video clip from that action, thanks to Aleksandar Kostikj. Clearing the snow on the road at Frchec area You are welcomed to visit Galichnik for New Year's eve. |

With the first snowfalls this autumn, the question of whether in the following winter period an efforts will be made for maintaining the road between Mavrovo and Galichnik, is again actualized. For a long time the local community prepares a strategy for reviving of Galichnik during the winter months by making the first big step this month - buying a bulldozer for snow clearance which will be used primarily for the needs of the natives and the tourists. One of the former vehicles which cleaned the road only in spring |

Part of the program related to the start of Galichnik cultural summer 2011, which marks the activities around Galichnik Wedding, planned to be held for 16-17.07. On the contest for bride and groom, the chosen ones were Verica Mitrichka and Ljupcho Ravanoski. Special participants in this year's manifestation will be the folklore groups "Kocho Racin" and "Folklorni Biseri".
