According to the recent data of the agency for real estate cadaster, the area of Galichnik is measured to almost 64 km2. Compared with the areas of the rest of the villages in Mavrovo-Rostushe municipality and wider, Galichnik’s is by far the largest. The reason for this large “given” ground, should be looked for in the past when Galichnik represented the main economic center in the region between the cities Gostivar, Debar and Kichevo. According to the AREC-GIS portal, the actual borders of the Galichnik’s area are shown on a map, where can be clearly noticed that most of them are the same as before. The area stretches to: - west – Radika, Smedovica, Kokosharnik, Skala, Kofilkovica, Kraishta, Zla Strana, Karbula; - north – Trebishka Rupa, Jarochkach, Frchec, Rusin, Saltanica, Dolna Cherkezhica, Solumunica, Kula; - east – Ahmetovica, Arap Kula, Pashinica; - south – Tri Bari, Golem Brzovec, Kjurkov Dol, Gorna Cherkezhica, Zengovi Rupi, Pavli Dol, Veli Vrv, Dolno Stopanche, Starci, Sushichka River; |

Second year in a row, the local community of Galichnik makes effort to maintain the road Mavrovo-Galichnik on short periods during the winter. Considering the harsh weather conditions on several points along the road it is a success to make Galichnik available for road vehicles even for couple of days. On the last day of 2012, using the dry weather period, the team lead by the driver Branko Lepcheski successfully reached Galichnik with their machine and celebrated the new 2013 in the village. Their action is described with ths photos of Ace Kostikj. |

From the end of the contest period till the closing interviews with the candidates, the board of the Galichnik Wedding had a tough decision to choose the wedding couple for the 2012 wedding manifestation from the four finalists. We congratulate all of them for their commitment to the choice procedures and we hope they all had great experience during the preceding events prior to the final decision. Danica Torteska and Trajche Lozanovski are the chosen wedding couple of Galichnik Wedding 2012. Congratulations from the organizers and enjoy during the final events of the ceremony. Uniqueness of Galichnik as a name of a populated place is expressed through the example of the immigrant workers sending telegrams where they only needed to state the destination simply as "Galichnik", without a region, country or continent, and the telegram would be received without any problems. However if we look more into historical details, we can find an information which luckily maybe was unknown to the postal services. Location of the "two Galichniks" It is about the ancient settlement Galichnik (known also as Galeshnik), which is located on the Hvar island, near the small town Jelsa, today's Croatia. Only the remains of the former fortress town which was alse functioning through the middle ages as well, can be found today. That archaeological site is known as Grad and is a subject of archaeological examines. |

With the first snowfalls this autumn, the question of whether in the following winter period an efforts will be made for maintaining the road between Mavrovo and Galichnik, is again actualized. For a long time the local community prepares a strategy for reviving of Galichnik during the winter months by making the first big step this month - buying a bulldozer for snow clearance which will be used primarily for the needs of the natives and the tourists. One of the former vehicles which cleaned the road only in spring |

On the last day of January, Blagoja Drnkov, one of the founders of Macedonian art of photography, left this world. He left calmly, with many years on his shoulders. His photos survived his 98 years of passing the beauties of his homeland from his camera's perspective to the public. Definitely, that is very important heritage for whole Macedonia. The cover of the photo monograph from 1975, dedicated to his 40 years of art activity In search for different topics for photographing and documenting, Drnkov often visited Galichnik and the surroundings. With his photos of the nature, cultural landmarks and the people with their customs, he helped the affirmation of this whole region. One of his masterpieces, the photo of the Galichnik wedding in 1939, can be still viewed in the hotel "Turist" in Galichnik. People from Galichnik sometimes expressed their constant gratitude towards him. One such example was Drnkov's exhibition in 1993, helped by their organizations. Let this text be viewed as such example as well. We hope that it will not be the last. And we will finish it with several photos from this master with topics from Galichnik. |

Many years have passed, maybe over a decade, since Galichnik could be reached by vehicle for New Year's eve. Nowadays this "tradition" is broken thanks to the efforts of the head people of the local community "Galichnik" to clean the road Mavrovo - Galichnik of the snow, no matter the weather conditions. In addition we present you some photos and a video clip from that action, thanks to Aleksandar Kostikj.
